This 1900’s New Englander home was transformed with new James Hardie siding. It was amazing what damage the vinyl siding covered all those years.
While removing the vinyl siding we discovered 1″ foam insulation on top of the original wood clapboards. When we removed the vinyl covered fascia and soffit we discovered that most of it was rotting and needed to be rebuilt in order to install the new fascia and soffit.
New 5 1/4″ Select Cedarmill HardiePlank lap siding in Woodland Cream and HardieTrim & HardieSoffit in Arctic white were installed on this home. We installed the new HardiePlank siding in Woodland Cream over new 1/2″ rigid foam insulation as the house had recently installed a geothermal heating system.
A garage addition had been added on about 4 years ago with Hardieplank siding where the installer was not informed on the proper way to install the siding. They had installed all the siding and trim to the ground. Repairs were made to the garage addition and painted with 100% arcylic paint to match the new Woodland Cream siding color of the main house.
When we removed the siding on the small garage we discovered there was no sheathing underneath the siding and the sill plate was rotting below the water line.
We removed all the damaged boards and install new sheathing, ice and water shield along the bottom as well as a 12″ PVC watertable board to help eliminate future damage. Including installing all new seamless aluminum gutters to drain the water properly away from the house and garage.
We also rebuilt the front porch area, we thought would would be able to salvage the framing of the deck but it was rotting and the ground underneath was sinking. We poured all new concrete footings to support the new deck and porch. We also expanded the stairway onto the deck. Then we installed new Timbertech railings in Walnut and Fibron decking in Chestnut Brown to the porch along with a access gate to get underneath if needed.
After all the repairs were completed this home was like new while maintaining the character of the 1900’s style. This beautiful is a standout in this neighborhood. The Homeowners were happy with going a little bolder in color and knowing they will have a low maintenance home for years to come.
